I can see clearly now...

the RAIN has gone... well, for now, anyway. Had I known it would have been a dry day, I would have gone running, but I opted for the gym instead. Nothing different from the last time I went, except I managed to watch an episode of NCIS on the elliptical now that they have Closed Captioning. Hey, whatever works, eh?

I'm hoping that this weekend, being the 4th of July and all, won't be a problem for eating. I know it can be for many people, and I will be tempted to eat things I shouldn't. We're going to our weekly "gathering" at our friends' house tonight, which usually means cheese and crackers, guacamole and chips, salsa, maybe spinach dip (evil, eeeevil stuff... but so good), hummus, etc. We'll probably bring fruit salad and something veggie-oriented, as we usually do. We'll more than likely crash there so we can spend the day with friends tomorrow for the 4th.

Keeping kosher presents some obstacles to eating with friends, but I think if I bring some salmon or something like that for dinner tomorrow night, we should be okay. I know a few chips or cookies here and there won't hurt me, but I'd rather not. I've talked myself into having a handful of dark chocolate covered almonds on a few occasions, reminding myself that both almonds and dark chocolate can be beneficial. This time? We'll see. I'd like to say I will avoid them entirely, but a few almonds covered in rich, dark chocolate really don't derail my attempts to lose weight, and denying myself something that I like can only be bad. So, moderation. Yup.

Have a wonderful 4th of July to anyone who reads this aside from me. Drive safely. Drink responsibly. Eat with the idea that, yes, food does have calories on holidays, no matter what you tell yourselves. ;)
